All students and staff of the University can refer themselves to the University Counselling Service. However, some students prefer to see the College’s own Counsellor, Mary Cavander-Attwood, who is available to see students confidentially in the Kaetsu Centre, adjacent to Murray Edwards.
Mary has years of experience working therapeutically with young people. She has a BSc in Health and Social Care, is a Registered General Nurse and took her Advanced Diploma in Counselling at the University of Cambridge in 2006. She is a registered member and accredited by the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).
Mary’s theoretical approach is psychodynamic (although she has also studied Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), but uses approaches from other discipline where appropriate. Depending on what is most appropriate, she can either see a student regularly and for a one-off session.
