SOCIAL LIFE
The MCR Committee organises all sorts of events!
Events in the past have included: salsa dancing, movie screenings, pancake brunches, wine and cheese nights, family events and a Stranger Things themed party!
If there’s an event you’d like to organise, the MCR can support you. In the past students have organised celebrations for Diwali, Lunar New Year, International Womens’ Day and other special occasions.
Besides this, we have a really friendly and supportive community. Whether or not you live in College, there’s always a chance to share a cup of tea or a glass of wine, play a game of pool or ping pong, or even get your hands dirty in the garden.
Many of our grads go on to be close friends long after they have left college – if you give it some effort you can really be left knowing some of the kindest and most inspirational people from all over the world!
COLLEGE SOCIETIES
There are many societies for all students at Murray Edwards College!
Inter Alios is the joint choir of Murray Edwards College and Churchill College.
The choir’s annual schedule increasingly includes trips outside of Cambridge to perform in cathedrals such as Ely, Rochester and Canterbury, and 2020 will include their first tour. If you are interested in forming a new music group involving members of the College, the Music Society will be happy to help support your activities in whatever way we can.
There are also subject societies to support your academic development and are a great way of getting to know other students on your course.
UNIVERSITY SOCIETIES
All Murray Edwards College students are part of the wider Cambridge Student Union (SU), which in 2020 became the new student body constitutive of both the previous Cambridge University Student Union (CUSU) and the Graduate Union (GU).
The University of Cambridge has the largest number of clubs and societies of any university in Britain. A list of all the University’s societies is available here.
You will find that there are endless opportunities to socialise outside college with any one or more of these clubs and societies.
