Events- Academic and Professional

Presentation by the Bursar- 17th November 5:00 pm

We invite you all to the MCR for a presentation by the Bursar (Robert Gardiner), this is the perfect opportunity to find out more about the running and financing of the college!

Giving 10%: Discussions with Those Who do it- 16th November 6:50 pm

Effective Altruism Cambridge: Over 140 Cambridge students have taken the Giving What We Can pledge to donate ≥10 % of their income to effective causes for the rest of their working life. We’ll hear from three of them at this event.

Three current and former Cambridge students will briefly talk about why they made this decision and how they find actually acting on it. There’ll be plenty of time for questions and discussion, with free food and drinks.

Many thoughts may cross your mind when you hear about this 10% pledge:

– Is that actually going to change anything?

– A “pledge” sounds unnecessary

– What is an “effective cause”?

– 10% sounds like a lot, I don’t even have a job yet.

We’ll be discussing difficult questions and choices like this in a relaxed environment. We hope you’ll leave feeling inspired that we do have opportunities to change things for the better. Hope to see you there!

This event is in the office for the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk, just across the road from the Mill Lane lecture rooms – it’ll be well sign-posted. Please note the start-time may change, but it will be about 7 or 8pm.

As always, this event is open to all, regardless of affiliation with the University of Cambridge.

2) Karrieredager (både her i Storbritannia og i Norge)

Vår mailadresse er cambridge@ansa.no.

Vi gleder oss til å møte deg!

Dear all Norwegian students in Cambridge,

Are you looking for a community of Norwegians where you can participate in exchanges of ideas, network, or just socialise and speak Norwegian? Well, you don’t have to look any further. ANSA (Association of Norwegian Students Abroad) has a local chapter in Cambridge which is run by Norwegian students for Norwegian students. ANSA  is a global organisation, with a global network of students, and local chapters in as many as 28 cities in the UK alone. ANSA Cambridge hosts events such as dinners, local pub nights and 17th of May celebrations for all our members. Our next event will be Christmas dinner in December, where any new members will have a chance to meet and get to know each other. ANSA membership gives you the opportunity to meet other Norwegians in Cambridge, but joining ANSA has other benefits too:

1) Support to help you navigate your studies abroad

2) Career days both in the UK and in Norway

3) Cheap (optional) insurance, tailored to students

4) Alumni network of Norwegians who studied abroad when you finish

5) Strengthening ANSA’s voice as a lobbyist and policy maker in the Norwegian parliament, who constantly strive to promote your interests

To become a member, you simply have to register and pay the membership fee online at http://www.ansa.no/medlemskap/. Membership costs NOK 430 for a year and NOK 290 for half a year. As a member you will automatically become associated with ANSA Cambridge and get our emails.

ANSA Cambridge may be found on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ansacambridge – you can like our page to stay up to speed about what’s happening.
